If I could rate that book as minus 5 stars, I would. Complete nonsense - just terrible pile of illogical thoughts. God, animals, mother nature, apes... And I simply hate such brain washing. No no no... Read it till the end simply because I am stubborn and wanted to see what's at the end. I very much hope that the suggestions in the book will do no harm to people and they will not end up slim, but very sick. And yes - I know - THEY ALL brainwashed me, that's why I cannot be trusted :))

O.M.G.!!
What in the world did I just read???
15 years ago I read Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking and I haven't lit a cigarette since July 28th 2003. I still celebrate that every year with a small dinner party.
So, after I gained weight after, well, shit happened in life, medication etc, weight which I can't seem to lose, I thought, maybe Carr can help me. But man, was I wrong.
While reading I kept a list of all the brainwashing bs in this book, thinking I would use that for my review, but I d...more

I read this book over a year ago and put it into practice straight away, I have never felt so good about myself, I am not only much thinner but I also no longer suffer from migraines or constant colds. I am a meat eater and have found the combining of different foods means i no longer suffer that horrible bloated feeling after eating. The book itself was difficult to read, I found it hard to get through but it works so I think it's worth it.

The worst book I've ever read on this subject! I couldn't even finish it - to me it was the same kind of brain washing that he speaks so pasionately against, only with a different perspektive, namely that all food is bad for you, except raw vegetables...utter nonsense in my world - but that probably means that I'm so brain washed that there's no hope for me...
Allen Carr's Easy way to quit smoking helped me pack in the cigarettes . I figured if he can fix my smoking addiction he can help me with over eating. So far so good, I am half way through. As I am a Vegan I can understand the subject of cows milk is for calves and raw food is best. I really like how he explains things and uses a car as a metaphor for our bodies.

ridiculousy vague, referring to our creator... his methods for getting rid of addictions such as smoking is brilliant. this, to me, is a means to make more money out of something that is not in his expertise.

Short assessment: This book started off with good intentions but failed to deliver because the conclusion was just one more diet. If you want to lose weight without dieting but instead through a lifestyle change, read Intuitive Eating.
Long assessment: Allen Carr's revolutionary book The Easy Way To Stop Smoking has helped millions of people break free of their addiction. He's done really great work, and I applaud him for the lasting change he's affected. However, he took the principles of th...more

I was curious about this method but... it's just plain stupid brainwashing. Calling fruit your favourite food doesn't automatically make it so, nor does it guarantee that it's good for your health and guts. I agree that meat and dairy consumption should be limited but there were no serious argument in this book. Furthermore, the religious undertone was very off-putting ('Nature created us so...', 'Nature created us the best way possible', etc) and the constant preaching really annoying (every se...more

HOW does this man do it? His quit smoking method worked so effectively for me (over three years now and not even a tiny desire to go back) that I thought I'd try this book for weight loss. Despite being an active, (mostly) healthy and intelligent person, I wondered why I could never reach my desired weight and that my attempts always failed eventually. I'm smart enough to figure out what to eat and what not to eat...why do I keep failing? I was hoping that Mr. Carr's no-nonsense approach would h...more
I previously quit smoking with Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book so I thought I would give this a go.
I was a little bit bigger than I wanted to be at the time, however I am tall and can get away with the extra kg's I had piled on.
By the time I finished the book (read it in one sitting) I had conformed my eating habits! It was so super easy and really hit the nail on the head for me.
I lost about 11kg all up and never looked more fantastic in my life! My partner was concerned about my e...more

I keep revisiting this book. Just like I stopped smoking the Easy Way, I am sure this is the right way for my health and well-being.
This was very good motivation to embark on a healthier eating lifestyle without leaving me feeling deprived as diets do. Brainwashing? Maybe.... effective - so far so good!
After stopping smoking very easily with his most famous book, this was always going to be a trickier curve for Allen Carr to negotiate. After all, we don't need to smoke but we certainly do need to eat. Still, the premise remains the same and very effective. It consists of recognising rubbish when you see it and training your brain to reject it. I don't have a weight problem by any stretch of the imagination but would sometimes find it difficult to stop eating if confronted with something I real...more

(view spoiler)[So this is time to confess - i do have problems with overeating. I cannot stop eating, and i can live for months only on junk food. I am not overweight (well, I spend everyday in the gym working out like crazy, why do you think I have zero progress with all my reading challenges)))), and this only makes it more difficult to solve, i think, cause 1. no one understands or believes or cares (even if i try to ask for help, they just look at me like i am inventing problems out of bored...more
It does the job that is intended to. I first read his other book last year Good Sugar Bad Sugar and I became a fan of Allen Carr ways. Both books are very similar, uses the same methodology on brainwashing of addiction, however the way he writes in this one can be quite challenging if you are not getting his point, there is a moment that it seems that Carr want to all of us to become a vegan but don't focus on it this is not even his intention. Focus yourself to get the information of what you a...more

Sometimes it feels like the universe is trying to tell you something. Deciding that my next course of food study should be raw and then reading this book was one of those moments. I'm still a skeptic and have yet to start said curriculum (or to find any scientific research for or against the new trend of the raw diet). But Allen makes some good points about the bad feelings overeating induces and uses his trademark CBT techniques to change our psychological associations and 'brainwashing' with r...more

I borrowed this as an eBook from the library and have since discovered that I had read it in September 2006. I did get a fair way in without realising that - which frankly does not say much for the book in itself. It started to lose me in a long theistic chapter which needed to explain its relevance rather more quickly in a book about weight loss. I then read some reviews which reminded me that this is not a psychological programme to help you address overeating, but yet another slightly bizarre...more

Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking, helped me auit smoking after almost 10 years. It was an amazing book, and I expected the same of this one.
I like that Allen makes simple and truthful statements about eating fresh and healthy, and being a more natural version of yourself. His views aren't new, but he made me rethink my eating habits.
However, he makes statements that are not scientifically supported and sometimes goes against nutritionist advice. It's not a groundbreaking book, it's just his...more

Im one of those fortunate people who used the author's other book to quit smoking. Do you know how big that is? Well, it is a mighty big deal. I thought this book will reveal to me a whole lot of why I eat, what I eat, get into my psyche to let go of hunger pangs but it just uses common sense, a brief history of the world, human nature, animal nature to try to propel its theory. And ultimately the book bored me because I felt it contained no real moving chapters. Just some general guidelines whi...more

I am entering this book four years after reading it, and it was borrowed from the library, so I don't have it to refer to. I can remember nothing about it except, possibly, it was one of the 'follow your instincts, only eat when you are hungry, mostly fruit and vegetables' approach. If my scales could type this review they would point out that obviously the book did not inspire me or motivate me. We all know that if we just ate fruit and veg and not a lot else we'd lose weight, and I don't parti...more
There were some good points that I have put into practice and admittedly parts that I skimmed over (god and religion) He brought some interesting points no milk/dairy products (which I am slowly incorporating into my life) and obviously fresh and organic is better. Probably the best point would be 'eating when your actually hungry' though difficult to abide by its quite interesting to learn how much of the time you are eating because you (me) are bored or in particular social situations. I think I understand the reasons to eat this kind of food I particularly love vegetables
I've just googled some examples of grains,so overall it doesn't look too bad
What would have really pleased me is either some recipes or examples of what Allen ate whilst losing his weight, just to give some ideas
I love curries, presumably I can have, say a butternut squash and spinach curry or a vegetable chilli....minus kidney beans, although I suppose they could be in my junk margin

The book is too watery, it seems that the author intentionally tried to write more pages. I didn't like his contemplations about God and evolution. At first he supports The Big Bang theory and Darwinism, but then he argues that so sophisticated organism like a human being couldn't have been created by a simple chance (it's mathematically impossible (what???). So author's belief in God can be perceived throughout the book.

Eat what you want, as much as you want, all your favorite foods. I love the straightforward way in which he strips away all the brain washing we've received about food and leave you feeling free to choose all your favorite foods, which by the end of the book are actually fruit veg nuts seeds legumes.. a genius! I enjoyed the book it did make me think about the foods I was eating but there were a lot of things that went unasnwered and quite some contradictions. He say's that we should eat fruits in the morning for breakfast on its own without other types of foods such as carbohydrates, meat and dairy products. But in another chapter he tells us is fine to have breakfast cereal with orange juice instead of milk which I found contradicting.

I love this mans books. I was a smoker for 10 years until I read his quit smoking book so I decided to read his book on losing wright and I was not disappointed. He puts things into perspective in such a way that really resonates and stays with you long after you read the book. And everything he says is common sense but once again just the way he puts it is so eye opening, you can't help but listen and follow the instructions.

Easy read, and I can see how it would work very effectively. The trick is going to be to read it more than once, and read it slowly.
Many of the actual diet information seems to come from 'Fit for Life' but the secret is in how he describes food and why you want to make different choices. I could feel my mind changing as I read the book. Fascinating, really.
Quick easy read, good information.

Its alright.... gives a very nice approach to healthy eating, but it certainly did not have the same effect on me as the Quit Smoking one. I think its a weaker book overall, on the method, but its a pretty good one to understand what is wrong with our eating habits. So, good for a jump start onto a healthier life, pr at least to have in mind what you put in your mouth and what it will cause.

A good easy and motivating read.
I loved the easy way to quit smoking and it worked a treat for me. I found this book similar in readability, however not as profoundly effective. I will read it again as I do believe Allan Carrs books do a wonderful job of connecting with our unconscious mind and shifting things around.

Somewhat misleading in its premise that you can eat whatever you want and lose weight. Possibly true if you follow his advice and give up all junk food - which is a pretty standard recommendation - but I know people who eat vegan, and are still gaining or can't lose weight, so...
Nothing really new here. His solution is a vegetarian diet.
